Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences - New Online Booking System

You play an important role in your child’s learning.  These interviews are an opportunity for you to find out how your child is  achieving their goals. Children who are actively engaged in their learning, who are focused on their next learning step and have the active support of their parents are the most successful in their achievement.

We now have an online booking system where you can choose a time that suits you.  Prior to each Student/Parent/Teacher Conference date you will receive instructions via the school newsletter on how to access this system.

If you do not have access to the Internet then a booking can be made through the school. The online booking system is simple to use and easy to see where the available spaces are. Remember those who book early will have a greater selection of times.

The first formal opportunity is a "Meet the Parents" evening on Wednesday 13 February, 2013.  To cater for parents who have more than one child at school we stagger the meeting times as follows:

Junior Academy (Year 1 & 2) 5.30pm - 6.00pm

Middle Academy (Year 3 & 4) 6.00pm - 6.30pm

Senior Academy (Year 5 & 6) 6.30pm - 7.00pm

"Meet the parents" - Bookings are not required for these meetings.

Mid Year Conferences - Wednesday 10th July 2013

Last year we ran a trial for a different format for Student/Parent/Teacher conferences.  The Year 2 and Year 5 teams held student-led conferences while all other year levels will be holding our traditional three-way conferences.

Student led conferences and three-way conferences take the form of a conversation between the student, their parents and their teacher.  Both approaches give students an opportunity to share  with their parents their growth as a learner.  The goal is for students to accept accountability and responsibility for their progress and achievement, and demonstrate a growing understanding of their development as independent learners.

In student led conferences, the student takes the central role during discussions.  The teacher is involved but is not necessarily sitting with the student and parents all of the time.  There will be five groups of parents and students discussing their work in a classroom, with stations, where students and their parents move around looking at different aspects of learning.  You will have up to and hour to work through these stations with your child.  The teacher will be available for questions and to act as facilitator.

It is our intention for all students to take the central leadership role this year.
